Nigeria's Defense Minister Resigns Due to Health Reasons

Alhaji Moham Badaru Abubakar, the Defense Minister of Nigeria, has resigned from his position due to health grounds. The resignation was sent in a letter dated December 1 to President Bola Tinubu, who accepted it and thanked Abubakar for his service to the nation.

Badaru, a 63-year-old who served two terms as the governor of Jigawa State from 2015 to 2023, was appointed as the Defense Minister on August 21, 2023. President Tinubu is expected to name Badaru's successor later in the week.

The resignation comes amidst President Tinubu's declaration of a national security emergency plan.
