NLC Threatens Action Over Rising Insecurity in Nigeria

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), under the leadership of President Joe Ajaero, issued a warning on Wednesday regarding the escalating insecurity in Nigeria, which has led to a series of mass abductions, including the recent kidnapping of school children and teachers in Oyo State. The NLC expressed solidarity with the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), which has initiated a nationwide strike to protest the abduction of its members.

The NLC commended the leadership of the NUT, led by Titu Audu Amba, for their decisive action. The statement emphasized the vulnerability of workers, including teachers, students, local government workers, doctors, and nurses, who frequently suffer from banditry and violent crime.

The NLC warned that the current state of affairs is unsustainable and that the nation cannot continue to remain passive while insecurity persists. The statement concluded that the NLC would not hesitate to take solidarity action if the government fails to address the security crisis effectively.
