Peter Obi Sues Kenneth Okonkwo Over Defamatory Remarks

Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and a member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has initiated legal proceedings against Kenneth Okonkwo following comments made during a live broadcast on June 8, 2026. Obi's legal counsel, Chief Alex Ejesiem of Madiba Chamber, issued a letter on June 9, 2026, demanding that Okonkwo retract statements that allegedly defamed Obi's character and integrity.

The letter claims that Okonkwo's remarks, which were disseminated widely across various media platforms, falsely accused Obi of soliciting bribes from political aspirants. Obi's legal team described these allegations as baseless and malicious, asserting that they have caused significant reputational damage.

The demands include an immediate public apology, the withdrawal of the defamatory statements, and a written commitment to cease further defamatory remarks, alongside financial compensation. Failure to comply within seven days will compel Obi to pursue further legal action.
