Catholic Priest Shot Dead in Enugu by Gunmen Near Hospital Project Site

In a tragic incident, Catholic priest Rev Fr Mathew Eya was shot dead in Enugu State by unknown gunmen near the site of an ongoing hospital project. The assailant intercepted Fr Eya's vehicle and fired multiple rounds at close range, leading to his death.

Initially suspected as a kidnapping attempt, the incident appeared to be an assassination as the priest was alone in the vehicle. Fr Eya, a parish priest at Charles Catholic Church, was widely respected in the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka.

The Enugu State Police Command and the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka have not issued official statements regarding the killing, leaving the community in shock and seeking justice for the slain cleric.
