Gunmen Assassinate Catholic Priest in Enugu - Police Investigate Targeted Killing

Gunmen on a motorbike assassinated Catholic priest Rev Fr Mathew Eya in Enugu State. The incident occurred as Eya, the parish priest of Charles Catholic Church, was returning to Enugu.

The attackers, riding a motorcycle, intercepted Eya's vehicle near a hospital project site, shot the tire, and fired multiple rounds at close range. While initial speculation suggested a kidnapping link, it appeared to be a targeted assassination.

The Catholic Diocese of Nsukka is yet to release an official statement on the incident, and the police are investigating the matter.
