Minister Nkeiruka Onyejeocha Resigns to Contest 2027 Elections

Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, who served as the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, announced her resignation on Friday, marking her as the third member of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's cabinet to step down. Her resignation aligns with the President's directive for political appointees intending to contest in the 2027 elections to vacate their offices by March 31, 2026.

In her resignation message shared on social media, Onyejeocha expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve in his administration and acknowledged the support she received from fellow members of the Federal Executive Council during her tenure. Although she did not disclose the specific position she intends to contest, she emphasized that her decision marks the beginning of a new phase in her political journey.

Onyejeocha previously represented the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2023. Her resignation follows similar moves by other ministers, including Alkali from the Ministry of Transport and Yusuf Tuggar from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who also resigned to pursue governorship races in Gombe and Bauchi states, respectively.
