Minister Onyejeocha Resigns to Pursue 2027 Election Bid

Onyejeocha announced her resignation from her role as Minister of State for Labour and Employment on Friday, sharing her decision via a letter on social media. She becomes the third cabinet member to resign following President Bola Tinubu's directive for appointees seeking electoral positions in 2027 to vacate their roles.

The deadline for resignations is set for March 31. In her letter, Onyejeocha expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the members of the Federal Executive Council for the opportunity to serve, describing her time in office as a privilege.

She thanked the ministry's staff for their dedication and support in strengthening worker rights and enhancing workplace safety. Onyejeocha, who previously represented the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2023, did not disclose the specific electoral position she intends to contest.

Her resignation follows similar announcements from Alkali, the Minister of Transport, and Yusuf Tuggar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, who are also pursuing governorship positions in Gombe and Bauchi States, respectively.
