BREAKING: Presidency Gives Official Reason for Nigeria’s Empty Booth at TICAD 9 in Japan

The Presidency has given an official explanation for Nigeria's empty booth at the opening day of the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) in Yokohama, Japan. The controversy began when a viral post by Idris Bello of Wennovation Hub expressed disappointment at finding the Nigeria booth unmanned.

However, the presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, dismissed the criticism as a misrepresentation, stating that Nigeria's participation at TICAD 9 was focused on engagement rather than a trade exhibition. President Bola Tinubu is leading a delegation prioritizing bilateral and multilateral negotiations with international partners in key sectors such as power and agriculture.

The statement highlighted meetings with Toyota Corporation, CFAO, UNDP, and others. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that the booth was not abandoned but simply not yet opened as scheduled for the second day of the conference.
