Protest Against Deregistration of Opposition Parties in Abuja

On Monday, a significant protest took place at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where demonstrators voiced their displeasure over an alleged scheme to deregister several opposition political parties. The protest, led by Banki Sharrif, aimed to caution President Bola Tinubu against interfering with the independence of the judiciary and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The crowd, which included various stakeholders from Northern Nigeria, displayed banners and chanted slogans emphasizing the importance of democracy. Sharrif specifically accused the federal government of attempting to bypass legal processes and called for an immediate cessation of such actions.

He highlighted that the administration's tactics could weaken opposition parties and undermine democratic legitimacy. The Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, was mentioned as insisting that his office remains non-partisan.

The protest concluded with a warning about the fragility of public faith in the legal system and the potential consequences of judicial actions perceived as politically motivated.
