Nigerian Reps Urge FG to Suspend WAEC's 2026 CBT Plan Due to Infrastructure Concerns

The Nigerian House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to halt the introduction of a Computer-Based Test (CBT) for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) by WAEC. Lawmakers expressed worries about potential widespread failure and psychological distress among students ill-prepared for the digital transition.

They highlighted the lack of infrastructure in secondary schools, especially in rural areas, to support CBT. The legislators recommended a three-year postponement of the CBT plan and gradual transition starting around 2029-2030, emphasizing the need for increased investment in ICT infrastructure and teacher training.
