Retired Police Officers Protest at Aso Rock Over Pensions

On Monday, retired police officers staged a protest at the Aso Rock gate in Abuja, demanding their exit from the contributory pension scheme, which they claim is unfair. The protest was organized by the Police Retired Officers Forum, with Raphael Irowainu serving as the national coordinator.

The officers are calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sign a bill that would allow them to exit the pension scheme, which they argue negatively impacts their welfare. The proposed legislation is expected to be transmitted to the President by March 16, 2026, following its passage in the National Assembly on December 4, 2025.

The retired officers have previously demonstrated for pension reforms, emphasizing the urgent need for the President to act swiftly to address their concerns regarding the pension system affecting security personnel.
