Retired Police Officers Protest at Aso Rock for Pension Bill

Retired police officers staged a protest at the main gate of Aso Rock in Abuja, demanding immediate action from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sign the long-awaited Police Exit Bill. The protest, organized by the Police Retired Officers Forum, aimed to highlight the inadequacies of the current pension system, which they described as deeply damaging to their welfare.

The officers, some accompanied by elderly family members, blocked access to the villa early in the day, disrupting movement in the area. They carried placards and chanted songs, making their grievances clear, with messages such as “Tinubu sign the bill.” The proposed Police Exit Bill seeks to remove the Nigeria Police Force from the contributory pension scheme, which was passed by the National Assembly in December 2025 and is expected to be forwarded to the president by March 2026.

Despite appeals from security personnel to disperse, the demonstrators insisted they would not leave until they received a direct response from the president regarding their situation, citing severe hardships they face due to the current pension system.
