Supreme Court Restores David Mark's ADC Leadership

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has issued a unanimous judgment restoring the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) under David Mark, the former Senate President. The ruling, delivered by a panel led by Lawal Garba, nullified a decision from the Court of Appeal that had previously favored another faction.

The Supreme Court emphasized that the order to maintain the status quo was no longer applicable and directed the Federal High Court in Abuja to resume and conclude the case. This leadership tussle began following changes in the party's structure in 2025, which were prompted by the exit of an executive led by Ralph Nwosu.

The judgment clarifies the path for the lower court to deliver a final decision on the leadership crisis, which has been central to competing claims within the party. Notably, the Independent National Electoral Commission had previously withheld recognition of the faction pending the outcome of this case.
