Supreme Court Upholds David Mark's ADC Leadership

The Supreme Court delivered a unanimous judgment that upheld the leadership of David Mark in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), setting aside a previous order that threatened the party's presence in the upcoming 2027 general elections. The apex court's ruling nullified a convention organized by a faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) led by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, which had been deemed a blatant disobedience of a valid court order.

The court found that the appeal by the Turaki-led faction lacked merit and that the lower court had improperly issued a preservative order. Justice Moham Garba, who delivered the lead judgment, stated that the trial court should continue hearing the case without granting or refusing interlocutory injunctions.

The ruling also emphasized that the order from the lower court remained binding until set aside, reinforcing the ADC's leadership under Mark as legitimate.
