Cameroonian Troops Cross into Nigeria, Sparking Tension

On Wednesday, over 200 heavily armed Cameroonian security personnel reportedly crossed into the Nigerian territory of Danar, located in the Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State, without formal border clearance. This development has sparked fear among residents, many of whom fled their homes due to concerns about escalating security crises.

Local sources indicated that the presence of foreign armed personnel has created panic in the community, which has previously felt the impact of conflicts in neighboring Cameroon. Former Vice Chairman of Boki Local Government Area, Hon Kingslei Mbia, intervened during the incident, cautioning against actions that could violate Nigeria's territorial integrity.

The situation has revived memories of similar incursions in 2017 and 2018 when Cameroonian troops allegedly crossed into Nigeria in pursuit of separatist fighters. Local leaders have called on the federal government and security agencies to strengthen surveillance around the border to reassure residents of their safety and prevent unauthorized movements of foreign troops.
