Woman Sentenced to 20 Years for Terrorism-Related Charges

Haliru Halima Umar, a housewife from Unguwan Boka in Faskari LGA, Katsina State, was sentenced to 20 years in prison by Justice Hauwa Joseph Yilwa at the Federal High Court in Abuja for unlawful possession of 302 rounds of live ammunition and for providing material support to terrorist activities. Umar pleaded guilty to two out of four counts brought against her by the Department of State Services (DSS).

The charges included knowingly concealing information about a suspect, Alhaji Sani, who was involved in gun running and kidnapping, and attempting to transport the ammunition to support terrorist acts in Plateau State. The DSS apprehended her on July 6, 2025, during an operation where she was found with the ammunition and cash.

Despite her admission of guilt and expression of remorse, Justice Yilwa emphasized the severity of terrorism, describing it as a cancer threatening the nation.
