Katsina Court Sentences Female Arms Courier to Death

On September 16, 2023, the Federal High Court in Katsina State sentenced Hauwa U. Mukhtar to death by hanging after finding her guilty of conspiracy to commit and aiding terrorism.

Mukhtar was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) at Jibia Motor Park while attempting to transport 438 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition intended for a notorious bandit kingpin operating in the Dunburum forest of Zamfara State. The court, presided over by Justice B.

Bawal, evaluated evidence, witness testimonies, and final addresses from both the prosecution and defense counsel. The prosecution successfully proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt, leading to the conviction.

This case is part of a broader effort by the DSS, which recently secured another death sentence for a female arms courier, marking a significant milestone in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria.
