Tinubu Signs 2026 Budget, Extends 2025 Budget Deadline

On Friday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assented to the 2026 Appropriation Bill, which totals ₦68.32 trillion. This budget allocates ₦4.799 trillion for statutory transfers, ₦15.8 trillion for debt servicing, and ₦15.4 trillion for recurrent expenditure, with ₦32.2 trillion earmarked for capital expenditure.

Nearly half of the budget is dedicated to capital projects, reflecting the administration's focus on economic stability, national security, and infrastructure development. The implementation period for the 2025 budget has been extended to June 30, 2026, allowing for the completion of ongoing infrastructure projects across the country.

This extension is expected to enable ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to consolidate their ongoing work and improve project completion rates. President Tinubu emphasized the importance of transparency, discipline, and efficient use of funds, while also highlighting the government's commitment to fiscal reform and economic growth.
