Tinubu Signs 2026 Appropriation Bill Allocating ₦68.32 Trillion

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assented to the 2026 appropriation bill, which provides for an aggregate expenditure of ₦68.32 trillion. This bill also extends the implementation period of the 2025 budget to March 31, 2026, and June 30, 2026.

The budget earmarks ₦4.799 trillion for statutory transfers, ₦15.8 trillion for debt service allocation, ₦15.4 trillion for recurrent expenditure, and ₦32.2 trillion for capital expenditure. The administration emphasizes its commitment to economic stability, national security, and infrastructure development, with allocations reflecting strategic balance among statutory obligations, debt service, recurrent expenditure, and capital investment.

The appropriation act will come into force on April 1, 2026, allowing the federal government to commence full implementation of the "Renew Hope" agenda. President Tinubu has directed ministries, departments, and agencies to ensure disciplined, transparent, and efficient use of allocated resources, reinforcing the importance of fiscal reform and revenue generation to stimulate economic growth and job creation.
