Traders Protest Government Takeover at Lagos Trade Fair

On Wednesday, traders at the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex shut down their businesses in protest against a proposed government takeover of the facility. The traders expressed concerns regarding the management restructuring and the introduction of new taxes, fearing additional financial pressure on their already struggling businesses.

The protest began early in the morning, with traders locking their shops and gathering in the park area of the complex to discuss the situation. Emeka Onu was identified as a key trader amidst the tensions.

Jumoke Oduwole, Nigeria's Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, visited the complex to engage with the traders and address their concerns. During her visit, she appealed for calm and urged the traders to reopen the complex to ensure business activities could continue without disruption.

The Lagos International Trade Fair Complex is one of Nigeria's largest commercial centers, hosting thousands of traders dealing in various goods.
