Owode-Onirin Traders Seek Federal Probe After Market Demolition in Lagos

Owode-Onirin traders in Lagos are calling for a Federal Government probe into the demolition of their market, rejecting allegations of land grabber involvement. The traders claim the demolition was not orchestrated by land grabbers but was a coordinated action allegedly carried out by the Lagos State Government.

The market, existing for six decades, faced attempts to dismantle it over the past two years. The traders accuse multiple state agencies, including the Lagos State Building Control Agency and the Lagos State Task Force, of involvement in the demolition.

They also allege the presence of armed individuals during the demolition, leading to the deaths of six people. Despite peaceful protests, there has been no official response condemning the killings.

The traders are appealing for an independent investigation to safeguard their businesses and ensure a return to lawful trading activities.
