Lagos Traders Protest Management Takeover, Shut Market

On Wednesday, traders at the Lagos Trade Fair Complex protested against a proposed management takeover, resulting in the shutdown of the market. The protest, led by traders including Emeka Onu, involved locking shops and stalls to draw attention to their concerns about the implications of the proposed management changes, particularly regarding the possibility of new taxes that could affect their businesses.

The traders gathered around the park garage within the market premises to discuss the developments. They emphasized the need for wider consultations before any changes to the management structure are made.

The shutdown notably affected the Aspanda market, one of the largest spare parts markets in Lagos. In response to the situation, Jumoke Oduwol, the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, visited the complex to engage with the traders and encourage the reopening of the market.

Her visit aimed to interact with stakeholders and ensure the smooth conduct of business activities within the complex.
