British Council and Cambridge Honor 156 Nigerian Learners

The British Council and Cambridge International Education celebrated academic excellence by honoring 156 outstanding learners and schools across Nigeria. The event, which took place in November 2025, recognized 51 schools with awards and acknowledged seven learners for their top performance across various subjects.

Notably, 16 learners emerged as top achievers in the world for Cambridge IGCSE subjects, underscoring Nigeria's growing reputation for academic excellence on the global stage. Eyitayo Akanji, Director of Cambridge International Education at the British Council Nigeria, emphasized the increasing competitiveness of Nigerian students compared to their global counterparts.

The awards were based on outstanding scores in Cambridge international examinations, which involved millions of students from over 100 countries. The ceremony represented a culmination of collaborative efforts among the British Council, school leaders, teachers, and students across 400 partner schools in Nigeria.

Juan Visser, Director for Sub-Saharan Africa at Cambridge International Education, noted that quality education is a catalyst for transforming individuals and communities.
