British Council Showcases Teacher Research on Math Anxiety

The British Council held an event in Abuja to showcase teacher-led research on mindfulness, continuous professional development (CPD), and math anxiety. Donna McGowan, the British Council Country Director, emphasized the importance of evidence-based practices in classrooms and the potential for educational reform to start from local innovations.

The current cohort includes three Nigerian research projects that aim to enhance student well-being and reduce math anxiety through CPD initiatives. The action research grant program empowers teachers and school leaders to identify classroom challenges, test solutions, and measure their impact.

Rotimi Jiboku, Principal of Olumawu School, praised the British Council's grant program for expanding professional development opportunities for teachers and students. The event acknowledged the global impact of compliance with educational standards, with a reference to an online symposium scheduled for December 2025, organized by the British Council, which will share case studies on school improvement.
