Tinubu's UK Visit to Boost Nigeria's Creative Sector

The British Council highlighted the significance of President Bola Tinubu's state visit to the United Kingdom, emphasizing its potential to strengthen cultural ties and support the growth of Nigeria's creative industry. Chengetai Mujakachi, the regional head for Sub-Saharan Africa, stated that the visit represents a diplomatic opportunity to enhance cultural collaboration, identifying the creative economy as a key driver for economic development.

During the visit, two important developments in cultural and creative cooperation were announced, marking a shift towards structured collaboration aimed at strengthening Nigeria's creative economy. The Nigerian government outlined plans for policy reforms, skill development, and public-private partnerships to increase global competitiveness and foreign exchange earnings.

The partnership will focus on improving infrastructure, skill development, and access to international markets, with activities planned across Nigeria until 2028. Ian Murrai, the UK Arts Minister, noted the cultural power of collaboration and the potential for growth in the creative sector through shared heritage between Nigeria and Britain.
