BUK Investigates Student for Alleged Fraud Against Professor

Bayero University Kano (BUK) is conducting an inquiry into Ismail Sani, a veterinary medicine student, who allegedly defrauded Prof. Farooq Kperogi by impersonating a supposed 300-level microbiology student named Halima Tahir.

Kperogi, a Nigerian academic based in the United States, reported that Sani approached him claiming to need tuition support for newly admitted students without verifying the request. Sani's fraudulent activities included soliciting money for an elderly woman's medical needs.

Despite Kperogi confronting Sani with evidence, including emails and receipts, Sani denied any wrongdoing. Kperogi expressed concern over the dangers posed by such scammers, suggesting that they should face serious consequences.

BUK's Director of Public Affairs, Lamara Garba, confirmed the investigation and emphasized the seriousness of the matter, assuring that appropriate disciplinary actions would be taken. The university has urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information during the investigation.
