Kano Students Demand Garo's Prosecution Over ₦60bn Fraud

Students from the Kano Concern Student Movement (KCSM) are calling for the immediate prosecution of Murtala Sule Garo, the former APC deputy governorship candidate, over allegations of a ₦60 billion fraud. Garo, who previously served as the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Kano State, faces charges filed by the Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC).

The allegations include criminal conspiracy, breach of trust, and making false statements regarding the misappropriation of public funds allocated to 44 local government areas in the state. Reports indicate that Garo allegedly diverted ₦57.43 billion from statutory allocations meant for grassroots development between 2020 and 2023 into personal accounts and private entities.

The KCSM expressed deep concern over the impact of these allegations on the youth and the quality of education in the state, urging the Kano State judiciary to ensure a swift and transparent trial without political interference.
