Burkina Faso Proposes Talks to Strengthen Ties with Nigeria

Burkina Faso has proposed a high-level bilateral session with Nigeria to review existing cooperation and explore new partnership opportunities. This proposal was made on Friday in Ouagadougou when Nigeria’s newly appointed Ambassador to Burkina Faso, Ambassador Syndoph Endoni, presented his Letter of Credence to Burkina Faso’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Marie Traoré.

Traoré reaffirmed Burkina Faso’s commitment to strengthening ties with Nigeria, emphasizing their shared history and regional challenges. The proposed dialogue aims to enhance cooperation in security, trade, diplomacy, and regional stability.

Ambassador Endoni conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s appreciation to Burkina Faso’s leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, and expressed his commitment to addressing mutual concerns and fostering stronger Nigeria-Burkina Faso relations. This initiative follows recent diplomatic tensions, including the December 2025 incident where Burkina Faso detained 11 Nigerian Air Force personnel.

Both governments resolved the matter through diplomatic engagement, highlighting the importance of collaboration despite previous challenges.
