By-election: Why we didn’t do well – ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) explained their poor performance in a recent by-election, citing widespread violence, vote buying, and irregularities allegedly orchestrated by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The APC, in response, denied these accusations but acknowledged incidents that marred the credibility of the poll.

The ADC claimed that 300 armed thugs were arrested, leading to the cancellation of several polling units due to ballot box snatching and voter intimidation. They also highlighted reports of vote buying, including a case in Kaduna where a suspect was caught with millions of naira.

The party expressed concerns over the failure of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and questioned the competence and sincerity of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). They warned that violence, vote buying, and collusion with security forces are becoming the new normal in Nigerian elections, urging both Nigerians and the international community to be prepared for such challenges.
