Byron Donalds Wins Historic Florida Gubernatorial Election
Byron Donalds has made history as Florida's first Black governor following his victory in the 2026 gubernatorial election held on November 3. He defeated Democratic candidate David Jolly, as projected by CBS News.
The Republican National Committee congratulated Donalds, stating he would deliver historic wins for families, workers, seniors, veterans, and small businesses in Florida. Donalds received significant support from endorsements by US President Donald Trump and outgoing Governor Ron DeSantis.
He campaigned as a "common sense" candidate, contrasting himself with Jolly, whom he described as too extreme for Florida. Donalds criticized Jolly during his campaign, stating, "Liberal David Jolly is the change that Florida cannot afford," and highlighted Jolly's intention to apologize for Florida to the rest of the world on election night.
