Four Black Governors Elected in Historic US Midterm Elections

The US midterm elections resulted in a historic milestone, with four Black politicians winning gubernatorial races, allowing multiple elected Black governors to serve simultaneously for the first time in the country's history. The victors include Democratic Governor Wes Moore in Maryland, Republican Representative Byron Donalds in Florida, Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms in Georgia, and David Crowley, who won the gubernatorial race in Wisconsin.

This development is significant as no two elected Black governors had previously served at the same time. Prior to these elections, only three Black politicians had been elected governors in the United States: Wes Moore, Deval Patrick, and Doug Wilder, none of whom served concurrently.

In an interview, Byron Donalds expressed the historic significance of his candidacy, emphasizing that it reflects more on the state of Florida than on himself.
