AFN Targets Victory at CAA Championships in Ghana

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) is targeting overall victory and qualification for the 2026 World Athletics Championships at the CAA Senior African Athletics Championships, taking place in Accra, Ghana, from May 12 to 17. The AFN has sent a squad of 45 athletes, comprising 25 women and 20 men, to compete over five days.

Technical Director Gabriel Okon stated that the federation's ambition extends beyond merely providing exposure for young athletes; they aim to secure a strong performance leading into the Commonwealth Games. The women's squad is headlined by world record holder Tobi Amusan, who is pursuing her fourth African title in the 100m hurdles.

Other notable athletes include Adaobi Tabugbo, Janet Sundai, and Rosemary Chukwuma. The men's team features Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, who is aiming for his fourth continental title in shot put.

The team is expected to train at YabaTech Sport Complex in Lagos before traveling to Ghana.
