CAF Selects Nigerian Referee Kasim for AFCON Qualifier

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Nigerian referee Abdulsalam Abiola Kasim to officiate the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match between Cameroon and Comoros, scheduled for Thursday, September 24, at 7pm GMT. This match will take place at the Roumdé Adjia Stadium in Garoua and marks the beginning of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations PAMOJA 2027 qualifying campaign.

Kasim will be supported by an entirely Nigerian refereeing team, including first assistant referee Muhammad Yakubu Mahamud, second assistant referee Ahmad Tijjani Mustapha, and fourth official Abubakar Nurudeen. This appointment underscores the opportunity for Nigerian match officials to demonstrate their capabilities at a high level of African international football.

The match is crucial as Cameroon aims for a strong start in Group G, which also includes Namibia and Congo, while Comoros seeks to establish a competitive position. The qualifying campaign will feature 24 matches across 12 groups from September 24 to 26, with teams vying for places in the finals set to be held in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
