Enugu Rangers Advance in CAF Champions League via Penalties

On Friday, Enugu Rangers progressed to the second qualifying round of the CAF Champions League by defeating Benin's AS Sobemap 5-4 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in Lome, Togo. This match was necessitated by Benin's lack of an international-standard stadium.

The aggregate score was 2-2. Chidozie Iwundu opened the scoring for Enugu midway through the first half, but Emmanuel Ali equalized for Sobemap in the second half.

Enugu Rangers missed their first penalty in the shootout but successfully converted the next five. AS Sobemap, making their African debut, missed their third and sixth penalties.

Enugu Rangers aim to become the first Nigerian club to win the CAF Champions League since Enyimba in 2004 and will face either Mouloudia Alger of Algeria or Nigelec of Niger in the final qualifying round in October.
