CAF Awards Morocco 2025 AFCON Title After Senegal Forfeits

The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has officially declared Morocco the winner of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), overturning Senegal's previous standing. This decision came after Senegal's national team was found to have forfeited the final match, leading to a 3-0 victory for the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF).

The CAF appeal board ruled on Tuesday, applying Articles 82 and 84 of the AFCON regulations, which upheld a protest lodged by the FRMF against the conduct of the Senegalese team. Additionally, Ismaël Saibari, a player for Morocco, was found guilty of misconduct and received a one-match suspension along with a fine of USD 100,000.

The CAF also imposed fines on the FRMF for various infractions, including a reduction of USD 50,000 for a ball boy incident and USD 10,000 for a laser incident during the match. The appeal board dismissed other motions related to the VAR review area interference.
