Morocco to Challenge CAF Sanctions After AFCON Final Disorder

Morocco's football federation, FRMF, intends to appeal the disciplinary actions imposed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after the disorder during the AFCON final against Senegal. The match, which Senegal won 1-0 in extra time, was marred by a 14-minute delay on January 18 due to Senegalese players protesting a VAR decision.

CAF's disciplinary committee sanctioned both teams, with Morocco facing fines, player suspensions, and bans. Senegal's coach, Pape Thiaw, was fined $100,000, and the Senegalese Football Federation was fined $615,000 for player and fan misconduct.

Moroccan players and staff, including captain Achraf Hakimi, received bans and fines for various infractions. FRMF criticized the sanctions as excessive and declared its intent to defend Moroccan interests.

The appeal aims to challenge CAF's decisions regarding the event that CAF deemed a success despite the controversies.
