CAF Sanctions Senegal and Morocco Over AFCON Final Chaos

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued severe sanctions against the Senegalese and Moroccan football federations, as well as specific players and officials, following the chaotic scenes during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final in March 2025 at the Stade Mohammed V. Senegal's Pape Thiaw and Morocco's Hakimi were suspended.

CAF penalized both federations for various violations, including unsporting conduct and misconduct. Senegal faced fines totaling USD 615,000, with their head coach Pape Bouna Thiaw and several players receiving suspensions.

Morocco was fined USD 315,000, with Hakimi suspended for two matches. The disciplinary measures were imposed due to incidents such as a controversial offside goal, protests, and disruptions during the final match.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino condemned the disorderly conduct, emphasizing fair play and integrity in football.
