CAF Boosts Prize Money for Champions League and Confederation Cup

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed a substantial increase in prize money for its two flagship club competitions, the Champions League and the Confederation Cup. Effective from the 2025/26 season, the winner of the CAF Champions League will receive $6 million, a rise from the previous season's award of $4 million.

Similarly, the CAF Confederation Cup, which is Africa's equivalent to the UEFA Europa League, will see its winner awarded $4 million, representing a 50% increase from last season's payout. While the rewards for the runners-up in both competitions remain unchanged, the losing finalist in the Champions League will earn $2 million, while the beaten finalist in the Confederation Cup will receive $1 million.

This financial boost is expected to alleviate some of the financial strains faced by clubs participating in CAF tournaments, particularly regarding travel costs across Africa. Patrice Motsepe, a South African businessman, currently serves as the president of CAF, having assumed the role in 2021 for a four-year term.
