Nigerian Clubs Set for ₦559 Million CAF Prize Money Boost

Four Nigerian clubs—Rivers United, Remo Stars, Kwara United, and Abia Warriors—are poised to benefit from a ₦559 million windfall following an announcement by CAF President Patrice Motsepe on Monday regarding an increase in prize money across its tournaments. The new structure indicates that the winner of the Champions League will earn $6 million, representing a 50% rise, while the Confederation Cup champion will receive $4 million, a 100% increase.

Additionally, CAF has doubled the solidarity payment for clubs eliminated in the preliminary rounds, increasing it from $50,000 to $100,000. Despite not reaching the group stage, these clubs are expected to earn approximately ₦559 million based on the current exchange rate of 1,398 Naira to the dollar.

Rivers United, which reached the Champions League group stage, will earn at least ₦1.53 billion from its continental campaign.
