CAF Analyzes Nigeria's Squad for AFCON 2027 Qualifiers

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has released a statement regarding Nigeria's 24-man squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, announced by head coach Eric Chelle. The squad is categorized into fresh faces, attacking firepower, and missing regulars.

Nigeria will host Madagascar at the Stadium in Uyo on September 25 and travel to Guinea-Bissau four days later. Three players, Arthur Okonkwo, Isaac James, and George Ilenikhena, are set to make their competitive debuts.

CAF emphasized the importance of a key striker in Nigeria's attacking strategy, although his fitness was uncertain as Galatasaray had not confirmed his status prior to their match against Trabzonspor. Notably absent from the squad are Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and in-form striker Kelechi Iheanacho, who was called up for a friendly against Russia.

Eight players were named on both the qualifying and friendly lists, indicating the depth of talent available to Chelle.
