CAF Considers New Hosts for 2026 Women’s Africa Cup

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is exploring alternative hosts for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) following Morocco's announcement that it cannot host the tournament due to logistical challenges. Originally scheduled for March 17 to April 3, 2026, the tournament's timeline is now in question.

Moroccan authorities informed CAF that they could not organize the event in March due to conflicts with other football activities. This situation has prompted discussions about potential alternative hosts, with South Africa openly declaring its readiness to take over.

Gayton McKenzie, South Africa's Minister of Sport, Arts, and Culture, emphasized the country's infrastructure capabilities and warned against delays affecting women's football development. Meanwhile, CAF President Patrice Motsepe and Moroccan football chief Fouzi Lekjaa have reportedly reached a stalemate regarding the tournament calendar.

Despite the uncertainty, CAF remains confident that the event will be successfully staged once a new date is established.
