CAF Awards Morocco AFCON Title After Senegal Forfeits

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially stripped Senegal of their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title, awarding Morocco the championship following a controversial final match held in Rabat, Morocco. The CAF appeal board ruled that Senegal forfeited the match due to players leaving the pitch in protest after a disputed penalty decision.

The board awarded Morocco a 3-0 victory, thus crowning them as champions of the AFCON 2025. This decision marks Morocco's second AFCON title, with their first win occurring 50 years ago.

The match had seen Senegal initially score during extra time, but the penalty awarded to Morocco, which was saved, led to Senegal's players storming off the pitch. Additionally, Ismaël Saïbari of Morocco received a reduced suspension and fine for misconduct during the match.

The appeal board upheld a fine against Morocco for fan interference during a VAR review but reduced it from USD 100,000 to USD 50,000.
