CAN Declares Nationwide Black Sunday for Insecurity Victims

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has declared a nationwide "Black Sunday" to mourn the victims of insecurity across the country. This initiative aims to honor the lives of men, women, children, clergy, farmers, students, and entire communities devastated by violence, terror, and kidnapping.

Archbishop Daniel Okoh, the president of CAN, stated that the situation in Nigeria has become a tragedy, leaving countless families in despair. He emphasized that the church cannot remain silent while innocent lives are lost and families live in fear.

The observance coincides with Democracy Day, highlighting the importance of security in Nigeria's democratic journey. Archbishop Okoh called for a recommitment to building a nation where every Nigerian can live, work, and worship safely.

He urged the government to take urgent and sustained measures to address the security challenges and protect citizens. CAN also expressed solidarity with bereaved families and urged Nigerians not to surrender to fear but to remain united in the pursuit of peace and justice.
