CAN Urges Government to Protect Schools and Children

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), led by President Archbishop Daniel Okoh, has called on the federal government to prioritize the protection of schools and children in Nigeria. This appeal coincides with the observance of Children's Day in 2026, highlighting the urgent need for action against the increasing insecurity affecting children.

The association expressed deep concern over a recent incident in Oyo State, where a pupil and a teacher were reportedly abducted by gunmen, leaving parents traumatized and communities shaken. CAN criticized the current state of insecurity, which threatens the future of education in Nigeria, and emphasized the critical role teachers play in nurturing and protecting children.

The association also addressed broader challenges faced by Nigerian children, including poverty, hunger, abuse, and poor access to quality education and healthcare. They urged government security agencies to prioritize the safety of schools and called for collaboration among parents, faith communities, and local leaders to protect children and uphold moral values in society.
