Canada Increases Immigration Fees for Nigerians, Others

The Government of Canada has announced an increase in application fees for permanent residency and citizenship, which will affect Nigerians and other foreign nationals seeking residency in Canada. This fee adjustment will take effect on April 30, 2026, as per an official notice published on the IRCC website.

The changes are part of a routine review aimed at maintaining reliable services and addressing inflation. The permanent residency fee will see a 25% increase, moving from $575 to $600.

The provincial nominee program fee will rise by $40, from $950 to $990, while the business class category fee will increase by $85, from $1,810 to $1,895. The family class category will also experience a 25% increase, raising the fee from $545 to $570.

Additionally, the fee for the protection of persons will rise from $635 to $660, and humanitarian and compassionate ground visa fees will increase from $635 to $660. The citizenship fee will adjust from $119.75 to $123, effective March 31, 2026.

The IRCC explained that the review of permanent residency application fees occurs every two years to help offset program costs and respond to increased demand for immigration services.
