Canal+ Seeks Full Control of MultiChoice's DStv and GOtv Operations

Canal+, the French media giant, has formally applied to Uganda's communication regulator to acquire full control of MultiChoice's DStv and GOtv operations in Uganda. This request involves a change in control of various licenses held by MultiChoice subsidiaries, including subscriber management and streaming rights.

The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) is set to assess the takeover's compliance with public interest requirements, with approval expected in early October. Key considerations include pricing, local content, job security, and service competitiveness.

This move follows Canal+'s recent acquisition of the remaining stake in the MultiChoice Group, signaling a significant shift in the African media landscape with potential implications for subscribers across 50 countries.
