FAAN Enhances Security at Lagos Cargo Terminal with New System

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is introducing a biometric and vehicle tracking system at the Pilgrims and Cargo Terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. This initiative aims to tighten access and documentation, thereby reducing congestion, curbing unauthorized access, and improving safety and security at the terminal.
Mr. Lekan Thomas, the Director of the Directorate of Cargo Development and Services, has engaged key government agencies, including the Nigeria Customs Service, NDLEA, NAFDAC, and others, to inform them about the new access control measures. The system will permit only registered, verified, and authorized individuals and vehicles into designated areas.
FAAN’s Integrated Cargo Stakeholder Registry will be the primary reference for verifying cargo operators. The first phase will include the installation of Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras, boom barriers, and CCTV for monitoring.
An X-ray scanner for baggage and parcels will also be introduced to enhance security screening.
