FAAN Enhances Airport Passenger Safety and Taxi Operations

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has emphasized its commitment to ensuring passenger safety and security at airports. FAAN's responsibilities include facilitating the seamless processing of departing passengers and ensuring the safe transportation of arriving passengers to their final destinations.

The agency is restructuring taxi operations at major airports to hold operators accountable, which has led to misunderstandings with e-hailing services like Uber and Bolt, who claim exclusion from airport operations. Henry Agbebire, the Director of Public Affairs & Corporate Protocol at FAAN, stated that while passengers desire convenient transportation, the agency must ensure that commercial vehicles operating in the airport environment are identifiable and accountable due to security concerns.

FAAN recognizes the importance of e-hailing platforms in urban mobility and is negotiating with these services to align with its new taxi operation policies. The agency stresses that the operational framework must adhere to airport-specific safety regulations.
