Nigeria to Acquire 46 Advanced Fighter Aircraft and UAVs

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sundai Kelvin Anek, announced that Nigeria will acquire over 46 cutting-edge fighter aircraft, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to enhance the operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Armed Forces across the full spectrum of air operations. The acquisition includes 24 M-346 fighter ground attack aircraft, 12 AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters, and 10 AW-109 Trekker helicopters.

This strategic engagement involves collaboration with the United States, Italy, and Turkey, yielding positive results. Air Marshal Anek emphasized the importance of preparing personnel to operate these advanced aircraft, which will be critical for the next generation of pilots.

The initiative is part of ongoing transformation efforts within the Nigerian Air Force, supported by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The inauguration of new infrastructure at the NAF base in Kaduna, including student pilot quarters and accommodation for personnel, reflects a commitment to maintaining high professional standards.
