FAAN Launches Cashless Payment Options at Airports

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the implementation of four payment options as part of its cashless policy at airports, effective March 1, 2026. This initiative aims to eliminate cash transactions and enhance operational efficiency at entry points, aligning with Nigeria's broader push towards a cashless economy.

The available payment channels include the Go Cashless card, which allows for seamless automatic deductions without stopping, and an ATM debit card via Point of Sale (PoS) systems. However, the processing time may vary due to bank network issues.

Users can obtain the Go Cashless card at commercial offices and manage it online at www.gocashless.faan.gov.ng. The cashless policy was first announced in September 2025, with a partnership between FAAN and Paystack, beginning at major hubs like Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

FAAN emphasizes that the system will facilitate faster, safer transactions and potentially increase revenue by 75%, while reducing cash handling. However, the initial implementation faced challenges, including vehicular gridlock at airports.
